Arrest Made In Brown-Waite Threat Case

Statement

Date: April 19, 2010
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Congresswoman Ginny Brown-Waite (FL-05) released the following statement today after it was reported that an arrest has been made in the case involving a threat on Brown-Waite's life:

"Contrary to the claims by some of my Democrat colleagues, these threats are real and need to be taken very seriously. I am grateful to the Hernando County Sheriff's Department and the FBI, Tampa Division, for their due diligence in this case. I'd like to especially thank Sheriff Richard Nugent, Tampa FBI's Special Agent in Charge, Steven E. Ibison and Special Agent Susan Bucenell for their unwavering commitment to this matter.

"The work that we do in Congress can be controversial, but violence is never the answer. Before they hide behind their phones and make threats on the lives of elected officials, people need to realize that they are committing a Federal offense and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

"I thank our local law enforcement for recognizing the serious nature of this threat and addressing this case with the concern and diligence that it deserves.
